Obsession (2025)  is a horror film that, at first, seems to be based on a simple idea: Bear, a lonely and awkward man, is secretly in love with his co-worker Nikki. He uses a mysterious object that grants one wish. In his wish, Bear wants Nikki to be with him and love him back, and that comes true in the worst possible way. 

 
What makes Obsession effective is not only its supernatural concept, but the way it explores desire, loneliness, and control. Bear wants love without rejection, risk, and without another person’s free will. This is where the film becomes more disturbing than a typical horror story. Nikki’s transformation is frightening, but Bear’s selfishness is just as unsettling.  

The film mixes horror with dark comedy quite well. Some moments are strange, awkward, and funny, but soon after that the atmosphere becomes much darker. Because of this, the story does not feel boring or predictable. There is always a feeling that everything is slowly getting out of control.  

Inde Navarrette gives one of the strongest performances in the film. As Nikki, she has to move between charm, fear, obsession, and physical horror, and she does it with impressive intensity. Michael Johnston also makes Bear more than just a simple villain. He is lonely, insecure, and sometimes even sympathetic, but the film never lets us forget that his choices have consequences. 

Another thing I really liked about this movie was the soundtrack. It fits the atmosphere very well and makes some scenes feel even more intense. It adds to the strange, uncomfortable mood of the story.  

 
Overall, I would rate Obsession 9/10. I really enjoyed the film because it was intense, original, and memorable. The story kept my attention from beginning to end, and I liked how it combined horror, dark humor, strong acting, and great music. Even though it is disturbing at times, that is exactly what makes it so effective.
