Fat Thursday
Hi Everyone!
How many doughnuts have you eaten? I hope you have not forgotten about today! “Fat Thursday” is the perfect day to forget about the diet for one day and CELEBRATE! In Poland “Fat Thursday” is the last Thursday before Lent in the Christian calendar. This day begins the last week of the carnival and eating doughnuts is a tradition in Poland. The genesis of Fat Thursday dates back to paganism. It was a day when people used to celebrate the end of winter and the arrival of spring. Celebrating was based on eating fatty foods, meat and drinking wine. Snacks were doughnuts stuffed with fatback. Nowadays, we can find doughnuts stuffed with whatever we want – jam, fruits, chocolate and even meat.

Hmm…. Have you ever wondered how other countries celebrate a day similar to our “Fat Thursday”? If so, I have an answer to your question.
For example, people in the UK are celebrating “Fat Tuesday” instead of “Fat Thursday”. This is the last day of the carnival. The holiday is named Pancake Day and, of course, it is a day when the whole country eats traditional thick pancakes with various toppings. SOUNDS DELICOIUS! What is more, Pancake Race, which is about running and tossing pancakes in a pan, is organized. I do not know about you, but I think it is amazing because by taking part in the race you can burn the consumed calories.

Let me know what you think about it! Maybe, we should organize a similar race in our country. It would be funny.

Bye!
