World Blood Donor Day!
World Blood Donor Day is a day dedicated to all good people who donate their blood to those in need. This day is celebrated on June 14 and it is no coincidence1. On this day in 1868, Karl Landsteiner was born. He was an outstanding2 scientist who discovered blood groups in 1901. His work revolutionized medicine because it made safe blood transfusions possible, which had previously been impossible. For his discovery, Karl Landsteiner was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.
This day is a unique opportunity3 to celebrate and thank honorary blood donors for their gift of blood. It also reminds us of the main goal4 pursued by blood services around the world – achieving universal access to safe blood transfusions.

International Sushi Day!
Many people love sushi! This is the most famous dish from Japan that has spread5 all over the world. We celebrate it on June 18. Sushi delights not only with its taste, but also with the method of preparation, a variety of additives and many nutritional values.
Are you curious how it was created? In the beginning, meat and fish were covered in salt and rice and buried in the ground to prolong6 their consumption. Meat stored in this way could last several months, and apparently even years – fermented rice protected it from spoilage. At first, rice was thrown away, then to save money, it was eaten with meat. Today, sushi is a delicacy for many, and the sour taste of rice is achieved7 with rice vinegar.
Sushi comes in many forms and options. It usually consists of rice, nori seaweed, raw fish and vegetables. It is served with soy sauce, wasabi or fermented ginger. Different ways of preparing, rolling and cutting sushi have different names, e.g. maki, Gunkan, Nigiri. Traditionally, they are eaten with chopsticks8, and one roll should be eaten as one bite.
Sushi is very healthy – it is low-calorie, provides us with carbohydrates9, protein and vitamins. It can be consumed even on a diet together with green tea. On International Sushi Day, it is worth going with your family or friends to a place where sushi is served to celebrate!

Each of us feels the need for closeness11. Hugging is a great way to show sympathy, love or give some warmth. Not only to another person, it can be a beloved pet. Being cozy also has many benefits, for example, it improves well-being, relieves tension and stress, and even prevents arrhythmia and heart attacks. So let’s hug each other as often as possible!
