Operation Anthropoid – a review

The last movie I watched with my family is entitled “Operation Anthropoid (2016).” It is a cinematic adaptation of real events taking place in Prague. A film, directed by Sean Ellis, is of  a war and historical genre1. The film’s main actors2 are Jamie Dornan – playing the role of Jan Kubis – and Cillian Murphy, who plays Josef Gabčík.

The plot3 of the film presents the preparations and the assassination4 of Reinhard Heydrich. The events take place in 1942 in Prague. Two paratroopers5, Jan Kubis and Josef Gabčík, go to Prague to assassinate Heydrich. The attack on the Protector6 fails because the target7is not eliminated but after a few days Heydrich dies in the hospital as a result of the injuries8 he receives. The paratroopers hide in a church but not for long, as German soldiers9 start shelling10 the church. The assassins defended themselves to their last strength, to the last bullet11 but this leads to their suicidal death12.

To sum up, “Operation Anthropoid”  shows us how hard and dark the war times were and what people had to do to get freedom13.  I highly recommend this film to everyone who is a lover of war cinema and who wants to experience what a war looked like.  Fans of historical movies will be delighted by the attention14 to detail, uniforms or weapons15 which are chosen correctly for this historical event.
