Hi Guys!

I am writing this post because I would like to tell you  how I became interested in folk dance¹ and what meaning it has in my life.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved to dance. Unfortunately, because of living in my village, I didn’t have many opportunities to learn dancing. It changed when I entered high school, as there were classes in folk dancing. The school had its own dance group, for which I signed up. Training lasted several hours. In the beginning, it brought a lot of results, but when it came to performances², trouble began. There were a lot of people who wanted to perform. Unfortunately, only those whose parents were friends with the team leader were considered. Time flew by and my motivation dropped, which is why I left the team.

I had a break from dancing for the rest of a junior high school and the entire technical school.

When I started my studies, I found out that my university has its own folk dance group. After much thought³ and struggling with myself⁴, I decided to take the risk. I don’t regret this decision. I met many wonderful and ambitious people and most importantly I learned many regional dances such as Beskid, Rzeszów, Opoczno, Oberek, Spisz. Joining the team worked in my favour, for it increased my self-confidence⁵, my physical condition improved and I could visit new places by going to various festivals. After a few months of hard work, I managed to get a place in the first lineup of the group. It is a student dance troupe, but who knows, maybe the passion for dance will help me join the national one.

To sum up, my adventure with folk dance had its ups and downs, but luckily I managed to continue to love it. It is important to have some passions in life, so I wish you the same.

Fun fact! In the group I found not only my passion but also the love of my life (she would kill me if I didn’t mention it).
