The advantages and disadvantages of electric cars

Nowadays, we meet more and more electric cars on our Polish roads. New models of well-known brands appear on the automotive market. Today I would like to present the advantages and disadvantages of such vehicles.

The advantages of electric cars:

Electric cars provide high comfort of use and a significant reduction in maintenance costs. Buying such a car is a very good solution for the environment. Electric motors help to minimize exhaust emissions. The main advantages of such vehicles are:

– Higher Efficiency – electric motors offer greater efficiency. In this respect, they are superior to internal combustion engines, which can lose power through heat emission. Thanks to this solution, the performance of the vehicle can be higher.

– Lower failure rate – electric motors have a less complicated structure than internal combustion engines. No need to change filters or oils. Fewer components mean less risk of damage and failure.

– Silent operation – electric cars are very quiet, making them comfortable for everyday driving. Driving this car is a real pleasure for those who are fed up with the loud sounds of combustion cars.

– Simplicity – many people think that electric cars are complicated to use, but this is not the case. They can be charged at home using household chargers or at dedicated charging stations. When charging the vehicle, you can also use the photovoltaic system, thanks to which we will reduce electricity costs.

– Stabilized costs – the price of electricity does not change as much as fuel prices, thanks to which we can avoid sharp increases in operating costs.

– Long battery life – cars of the most popular brands are equipped with durable batteries that will last for many years. It is important to follow the battery charging rules. In some cases, it is much better to charge the battery to 80%.

– Electrical engines – electric motors are increasingly using renewable energy sources. It should also be added that they do not produce toxic compounds compared to internal combustion engines.

The disadvantages of electric cars:

For many people, the biggest disadvantage is the high price. The costs of such a car are higher than those of a combustion engine car with similar performance parameters. Keep in mind that the operation of such a vehicle is usually cheaper. The disadvantages of these cars include:

– The need for frequent charging – the distance that we can cover after a full charge depends on the specification of the vehicle. Technology is constantly evolving, thanks to which the latest models of cars with an electric motor can be charged less often, making it easier for us to plan our route.

– A small number of charging stations – the number of charging stations is constantly increasing, but there are still too few of them. This requires good organization of the trip; it is best to determine the place where the car will be charged from the beginning of the route.

– Maintenance at an authorized service center – cars with an electric engine are not very popular in Poland, so in the event of a breakdown, it is best to go to the service center. Repairs in ordinary car workshops are not recommended due to the likelihood of incorrect repair, which may later result in numerous failures.

– Purchase costs – an electric car is very expensive. This is due to the fact that the number of available models on the market is limited.

Is it worth buying an electric car?

Electric cars are recommended primarily to people who value high driving comfort. These vehicles definitely have many advantages. Many people may think that they will work only when we make short trips, which is not entirely true, because modern cars have more and more capacious batteries, thanks to which there is no need for frequent charging. One of such cars is the Mercedes EQS, whose range reaches up to 737 km.

I personally wouldn’t buy an electric car because I don’t think the technology is fully developed. Recently, you can often hear about fires of such cars, it seems to me that their cause may be imperfections on the part of the manufacturers. Such a car is hard to put out and after such a fire the car is only suitable for scrap, because it cannot be repaired. The same is true for accidents. After the accident  electric cars are not repaired, while combustion cars are. Combustion cars, despite many disadvantages compared to electric cars, should definitely stay on the market for some time, until the infrastructure of charging stations and the technology of electric cars develop.
