I started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu about 4 years ago and I loved it from day one. This sport is a martial art¹ that is about fighting on the ground, using grips and levers², which lead to controlling the opponent³ and preventing him from attacking.

Did you know that… the emergence of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu dates back to the beginning of the 20th century? Maeda Mitsuyo, a Japanese martial artist who was banished from his community for participating in paid fights, arrived in Brazil. Maeda Mirsuyo had a student. That was Carlos Gracie, the son of a politician who had a background in both wrestling⁴ and street fighting. By combining both his and his teacher’s  fighting techniques, Gracie became nearly invincible and was named the progenitor⁵ of BJJ. Later, the technique was improved and popularized in the USA. In the 1990s, the technique of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became the basis of fighting among MMA fighters.

Worth mentioning is the fact that more and more often uniformed services⁶ such as the police or the army have BJJ in their training program because it does not only allow their members to feel more confident at work but it also helps them immobilize the offender⁷ without doing him/her any harm. For some time I have also had the pleasure of being a trainer; I teach Jiu Jitsu based on my own experience, which I gain by frequent starts in competitions or trips to clubs all over Poland. During the military training in which I participated, I trained soldiers in self-defense and everyone was very pleased with the knowledge I passed on. I believe that every officer should know at least the basics of Jiu Jitsu to be able to defend themselves and others. I love what I do and I encourage everyone to try this sport because it can change many things in life for the better.

Recently, I have received an award for winning the sports plebiscite, where I was chosen the athlete of the year 2022. This award⁸ is the summary of the work I have done throughout the year. Many hours of training, victories⁹ at ¹⁰competitions, all this was appreciated in the form of this award.
