Logistics
Logistics is a planning process which ensures the efficient flow of raw materials, finished products and relevant information from the point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customer requirements.
Today I want to describe a few basic logistic concepts.
Forwarding – is the management and organization of all activities related to the shipment of items, to ensure safe and effective delivery of the shipment to the indicated place. In short, it is the activity of organizing the transport of goods.
Warehousing – another word for warehousing is storage. It is about storing goods in a room or container; collecting, putting something away for later use.
Transport – moving people, loads (the object of transport) using appropriate means (means of transport).
Supply chain – includes all activities, starting from the acquisition of basic raw materials and ending with the sale to the final buyer of the final product and the disposal of what is left of it after use. Therefore, it is a flow of raw materials and finished products from the moment of obtaining by the former to the moment of consumption of the final product by the end user.
WMS (Warehouse management System) – a warehouse IT system used to coordinate warehouse work. A special task performed within the WMS systems is the flawless location of goods in the warehouse and the control of the warehouse turnover.
Just in time is about providing the right amount of products or materials as they are needed to produce products or provide services. It is about streamlining and cutting costs.
